    Dr. Angela Peters, Ph.D.

I am a Clinical Psychologist and Health Service Provider, licensed by the State of Iowa. I have been in private practice since 2006 in the Siouxland community providing evaluations and therapy.  My expertise in evaluations, medical evaluations, learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, psychological evaluations, criminal competency/criminal responsibility evaluations in the field of forensics. I provide services for sexual offending, risk assessment, and treatment for perpetrators and victims, adolescents and adults.

I am a trauma-focused and informed therapist/evaluator who has a master’s degree in substance use disorders (special studies) and experience in process addictions. I am completing a master’s degree in clinical Psychopharmacology; finishing this program will allow me to apply for prescription authority for psychiatric medications. I have a master’s in psychology. My Ph.D. is in Human Factors Psychology, and a re-specialization in Clinical Psychology at the Ph.D. level.

I am a systems therapist…quality sessions over quantity…I run sessions by the traditional 45/60 -minute session; however, when the situation calls for something different or unique, the time may be more flexible. I work with a diverse population of people, faith-based, LGBTQ community, medically based disorders with psychiatric components.

I treat people in terms of looking at the systems that contribute to the health and well-being of the person, including family systems and childhood. The client, to me, is their own expert, and they share the narrative of their life, with myself as a facilitator. I treat clients of all ages, coming from different ethnic and religious backgrounds, differing perspectives on gender and sex, people suffering from personality disorder features or diagnosis, substance use disorders with psychiatric components, and clients dealing with complicated stress and life adjustment problems.

I have been extensively trained to treat PTSD/trauma symptoms and understand victim-perpetrator dynamics. I run groups for codependency and how to healthy relationships, trauma group, DBT group, Parent Management Training, Healthy living group, social skills group for autism, and adolescent group (skills management). We are excited that future plans involve groups for Recovery maintenance, adolescent treatment for co-occurring disorders, and we are building our team to meet the needs of our clients.

I have supervised interns at the graduate school level and undergraduate level and consult. I have taught at a few universities for a number of years. I provide public service to the recovering community. I hold a government appointed position on the Child Advocacy Board for the State of Iowa. I serve on many boards/memberships/commitments pertaining to mental health and substance and process addictions. I am registered with the National Register of Health Service Providers.
