    Sex Therapy

    What is sex therapy?

Sex therapy is a non-medical treatment for a sexual concern. A sex therapist takes a holistic approach to identify what may be contributing to sexual issues with an individual, couple, or group.

Sex therapists can assist in treating a broad range of issues including but not limited to erectile dysfunction, vaginal discomfort or pain, low sexual desire or arousal, desire discrepancies in partners, infidelity, loss of sexual enjoyment, sexual trauma, and out of control sexual behavior. The office is a safe space for individuals of all backgrounds and interests. Kinky and non-monogamous folx welcome!

    How does sex therapy work?

A sex therapist will conduct a mental health assessment and a sexual history with the client(s). A sexual history is not a list of how many partners a person has had but rather the background of how they developed their current sexual self-concept. The therapist will work with the client(s) to identify the sexual issue and what has contributed to it.

Sex therapists utilize traditional therapy modalities like CBT, DBT, IFS, etc., among other sex therapy interventions. A therapist may provide psychoeducation on sexuality, pleasure enhancement skills, normative sexual development, etc. Additionally, sex therapists may utilize interventions such as sensate focus or EMDR. Treatment is tailored to the specific needs of the client(s) to best achieve their goals.
